The 2016 Kirra Teams Challenge, proudly presented by the Kirra Surfriders Club for the 32nd consecutive year, is set to run from Friday 4th to Sunday 6th of March 2016.

Sponsors confirmed so far for the 2016 event include; naming rights sponsor – Super Brand, as well as other sponsors; Gold Coast City Council, Rainbow Bay Surf Lifesaving Club, Ulau Manua, Allstate Partners, Triple X and GC Surf Magazine.

The 2016 event will be the 32nd year that the Kirra Surfriders Club has hosted the “Kirra Teams Challenge” with up to 34 teams from board riding clubs around Australia expected to compete for the title of ”Australia’s Best Boardriding Club”.

Le-Ba Wins 2015 Vissla Junior Kirra Teams Challenge

1 - Version 2

The team from Le-Ba Boardriders have beaten Australia’s best junior surfers to win the 2015 Vissla Junior Kirra Teams Challenge at Duranbah Beach, yesterday.

In clean 3-4ft waves at D’bah’s off the wall bank, Le-Ba‘s all-star team of Zac Whitemen, Jack Murray, Mikey McDonagh, Hunter Weston, Jake SnellGrove, Luke Condon, Eli Carr & Jack O’brien were too good for their rivals, besting Snapper, Burleigh, Merewether and Kirra who finished 2nd to 5th respectively.

In the Girls Division, which was surfed on Saturday 19 September, 2015 at Kirra, the girls team from Coolum Boardriders were victorious, beating close rivals MNM Girls into 2nd place.

The Schedule for Vissla Junior Kirra Teams Challenge commencing Saturday morning, 19 September at D’bah;

Saturday19 September 2015

7.15am – Team Managers Meeting (All managers must attend)
8.00pm – Heat 1 of Junior Boys (U12’s) – Bank 1
9.00pm – Heat 1 of Junior Girls – Bank 2

The 2015 Vissla Junior Kirra Teams Challenge is set to to be held this September, in the best waves on the stretch of coastline on the Southern Gold Coast between Kirra and Duranbah, on the 19th & 20th of September 2015.

The Junior Kirra Teams Challenge, hosted by the Kirra Surfriders Club for this its 7th consecutive year, will attract more than 280 of Australia’s best junior surfers making this contest the world’s largest junior inter-club surfing teams event.

More than 20 boardriders club teams from Queensland, NSW and Victoria have already confirmed their entry, with some team spaces still available. So if your club is interested in competing, please download a copy of the entry form below and submit it as soon as you can to secure your team a spot.

Team entry will be capped at 24 junior boys teams and 12 junior girls teams, with the girls teams competing against each other on the Saturday and the boys teams competing across both days of the event.

The format of the event is the same as the Kirra Teams Challenge, with each club submitting teams of eight surfers including 2 x age 12 and under surfers, 2 x age 14 and under surfers, 2 x age 16 and under surfers and 2 x age 18 and under surfers. Each team member surfs once for their team, with team points awarded per heat as 4 points for first place through to 1 point for 4th Place.

The Team with the highest cumulative points at the end of the contest will win the event, prizemoney and bragging rights as the best junior boardriders club in Australia. The Junior Kirra Teams rules, available from the contest director, also detail the method of count back to determine team placings for teams on equal points at the end of the event.
